Class 1

Welcome to Class 1 with Miss Taylor and Miss Russell.

Our learning journey for this term is 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside'. It is a topic we are all excited about and have already seen the classroom start to transform into different beach settings. We will be looking at different seaside locations in different eras and will be exploring seaside materials.
Our visit to a seaside location will help us to learn more about coastal structures and local areas.

As our phonics screening test is fast approaching it is more important than ever to ensure that children are reading at home as much as possible. If you have any queries or questions about how you can support with this at home then please do not hesitate to ask!

We are continuing with our daily guided reading sessions and have really enjoyed using this time to develop our knowledge of phonics and having the opportunity  to read twice a week within a small supported group. The children are really enjoying this time to develop their reading skills. If possible could you please ensure that the children have their reading records within school so that we are able to support their learning at home. This also gives us the opportunity to provide you with feedback about their progression in reading and opportunities to continue their learning at home. Reading is an important element of learning in Class 1  and should be undertaken at home at least 4 times a week in order to support the children's reading development.

Our PE days are on a Monday and a Thursday afternoons, so please ensure that your children have their PE kits ready for their learning on these days. Additionally as the weather is warming up we will be partaking in PE sessions outside. Therefore please ensure that children have suitable outside footwear.

The children are continuing to work on their maths passports and are working hard to progress onto their next continent. If you would like any more information about their maths passport targets and how you can support them at home then please come and see me or alternatively see the link that is attached at the bottom of the class page. Additionally, please see the links at the bottom of the page for useful links and online games to help support your child's learning.

If you have any questions about your child's learning then please do not be hesitate to ask. We have an open door policy and will always be free to answer any queries you may have!
