Class 5 - Mr Allen

Welcome to Class 5's homepage, where you'll find all the latest updates and news about Class 5's learning adventure.

Our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs. Watts and Mr. Blakemore.

For the whole of the Autumn term, we'll be learning all about World War II.  We have lots of exciting things planned to make this a memorable learning experience, beginning the term by writing adventurous descriptions as though we were in the Blitz and engaging in immersive poetry writing, based around Remembrance Day.

Please read the attached Curriculum Letter, (under the relevant learning journey) to give you a taster of the exciting elements we will be studying this term.

Times tables are incredibly important and I would encourage you to help your child with these.  We are currently working on the 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 times tables but the children are expected to know their tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4 and the children did extremely well last year! Now we are consolidating this times table knowledge. Please follow the link to Times Tables Rock Stars and keep your eyes peeled for inter-class Battle of the Bands competitions.

Just a reminder that our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays, so can you please make sure that all children have appropriate PE kit in school on these days.  It would be useful if PE kit was left in school all week in case we have to change our PE lessons for any reason.  We are very lucky at the minute to have Mr Smith leading one of our PE sessions and sharing his expertise.  We aim to get outside for PE where possible so if children could make sure they have appropriate kit and footwear.  Also, can we please remind you to make sure that children have suitable indoor slippers or pumps to keep our school looking nice.

Spelling investigations are given out monthly. Please can you make sure you practice spellings, accompanied by the appropriate rules, with your children throughout the week.  They should also practice writing the spellings in a sentence so that they are able to apply and understand the meaning.  If possible, please could you listen to your children reading for about 10 minutes each evening and write this in your child’s reading diary and return to school on a Friday to be checked by myself, Mrs. Watts or Mr. Blakemore. There will also be the Around the World reading competition beginning very soon. Watch this space...

If you have any questions about how you can support your child’s learning in Class 5 please come in and ask. We'll all do our best to accommodate.

Many thanks,

Mr. Allen.  surprise
