Children are encouraged to read as often and as widely as possible. A reading book and school Reading Record is taken home each night. The reading book is given based on the children's instructional level of reading. This ensures that children can read comfortably, with accuracy and understanding. In Key Stage 1 children, who have not yet passed the Phonic Screening test, should take home a Phonic Book book from the Phonic Bug Scheme and a 'real' banded book at the appropriate level. Teachers will use daily assessments and summative assessments to make decisions about which book band is appropriate. If you have any questions about your child's reading book or reading record then please see the class teacher.
Here is the book band tracker, which shows the progression in colours, and indicates the appropriate stage.
