Class 3 - Mr Brooks

A massive welcome back to the youngest juniors in our school!

Mrs Dewsnap and myself are so thrilled to be in year three again! We have many exciting and new pieces of learning planned! If you'd like to know a little more about what we'll be learning, please read the attached plans as they are put online.

Our first learning journey is titled 'What Do We Treasure?', which is all about ancient Egypt. Look out for the museum posters, inviting you in, towards Christmas.

If you'd like to help your child's learning at home, here are a variety of things you could do for around 15 minutes each night. If there is anything specific you would like to know, please come and see us.

Reading - listen to your child read as much as possible, some children need the encouragement of reading to somebody. If your child would rather read to themselves on their own, then this is just as good. You could always talk to them about what they have read later. Reading Champions is up and running. We are expecting children to read upwards of three times a week to complete this and have their reading record in school regularly. We have many books on the shelves. Pupils are welcome to change these whenever they like. In addition to this, we have recommended reads in school. Mrs Dewsnap will help the pupils change these as we have a signing out system.

Maths Rockstars - continue to run. These will help your child's maths become quick and confident. We will also be focussing on these essentials in lessons but a little extra each night is often the difference!

Key spellings will be placed inside your child's reading record (the whole set for year three). These are the statutory spellings for the National Curriculum within Y3. Key spellings that your child needs to learn (from their writing) will be brought home as well.

Spelling Shed has been reset by school. Word lists will be placed on there, to practise as we learn them in class.

Learning Logs will be sent out at the beginning of each half term. We had some amazing Egyptian artefacts in autumn 1. How will the pupils better it in autumn 2?

Finally, PE days are on Thursdays and Fridays (however this can often change at short notice so make sure your child has their kit in school all week). Please make sure that your child has appropriate PE kit. Whenever possible, we will go outside. Please make sure your children have a white shirt, black shorts and trainers, however, they can bring extra layers to keep warm.
