Welcome to our Y3 class page and welcome 2022!
This term, our learning journey is What makes Sheffield unique?
As part of this learning journey, the children will be developing their geographical skills by locating places on a map using an atlas to support them and learning how to use four figure grid references. The children will be learning about different types of settlements and what can be found there. They will explore South Anston and Sheffield in more detail and complete field work to look at the land use, economic activity and the human and physical features in both places. They will also explore how both Sheffield and South Anston have changed over time.
In English, we are really developing our use of noun phrases, adverbials and clauses. We are learning how to use subordinate clauses in our sentences and how they can change their position in a sentence. The children are applying this learning, alongside different writer techniques, in their own amazing disaster stories based on the Sheffield Floods.
In Art, we are continuing to develop our knowledge of artists by exploring the work of Sheffield’s own - Joe Scarborough. The children will develop their ability to colour match and draw and paint different buildings, taking into account perspective.
Our stories, artwork and geographical research will be showcased in an exhibition for parents to see at the end of the term. We will be so excited to share our learning with you!
In Maths, we are on a multiplying and dividing mission! The children will be learning how to multiply and divide numbers by 2,3,4,5,8 and 10. It will be hugely beneficial for your children to practise these times tables as this will support them when calculating, reasoning and problem solving. We will be sending out keyrings to support children in learning target tables and it is important for children to practise recalling their timestables on Maths Shed or TTRockstars.
As Scientists, the children are continuing their learning about rocks and how they are formed and will be conducting different lines of enquiry to invesigate their properties and how to indentify and classify them. We will later be moving on to exploring magnets and how they work.
In Computing, the children are learning how to represent information using branching data bases. They will be able to create, explain and evaluate different branching data bases and compare how they represent information in comparison to other methods.
In PE, the children will be learning gymnastics and hockey with Mr Smith. PE days are on Wednesday and Friday. Please make sure your child has full PE kit and that any earrings are removed.
As Musicians, the children will be appraising, learning, improvising and performing the song Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. We will look forward to sharing our performance with you!
The children in Year 3 have thoroughly enjoyed learning Spanish so far this year. During this term, the children will be learning the days of the week and the months of the year.
We use Twitter as our way of sharing learning so if you do not follow us, please do so by adding @HillcrestAnson.
