This term our Learning Journey is

"How do we Celebrate?"

We will be learning about Bonfire Night, Armistice Day, Diwali and Christmas,  through all seven areas of the curriculum! Every Monday the weekly planning is posted on the Parents’ Notice Board by the red doors. If you have any further queries about the curriculum, please speak to a member of staff.

Parents as Partners

Tapestry:

We love to hear about what the children have been getting up to at home! Make sure you activate your Tapestry account and download the app so you can easily add observations of anything your child achieves when they are not at school. Tapestry is also a great way for us to contact you with reminders about school events or for you to check in with us. Make sure to check that your app notifications are set to 'immediate' so that you don't miss anything!

Home Learning in FS1

Reading Champions:

The children will soon be sent home with a reading book for them to share with you at home. The books will have no words initially in order for the children to develop the skill of story telling and noticing details in illustrations. As the children develop further with their phonics learning they will start to learn about the sounds made by different letters and about how to blend the sounds together to be able to read words. It is at this point that we will start to send home books with words that are 100% decodable for the children based on their phonic knowledge. Reading at home is an important part of ensuring your child becomes a confident reader. As such we want all the Caterpillars to become Reading Champions by reading at home every day!

Read your child's reading book with them each day and record this in their reading record book. For every 15 home reads your child completes they will be awarded with a Reading Badge in the their book. Can you collect them all?

Maths Rockstars Targets:

We have sent home a Maths Rockstars booklet to support your child with their learning in Mathematics. The targets in the booklet are designed to develop the children’s mental maths skills which you can help them with at home. Your child will need to bring their Maths Rockstars booklet to school every day as we will be working with the children on their targets in the classroom. Please do not complete the ‘Date Achieved’ boxes on the children’s booklets as this will be filled in by school staff.

If you have any questions about the Maths Rockstars booklets, or the curriculum in general, please speak to a member of the FS Team.

Spelling Shed:

Later on in the school year, look out for your child's Spelling Shed user name and password in their Reading Record Book. As we start to learn individual letter sounds in phonics the children will quickly be able to listen for sounds in short words and practise being able to spell them. Download the Spelling Shed app at home and get spelling!
