This term our Learning Journey is

"Who is the king of the jungle"

We will be kicking off our learning journey with our trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park on the 6th May. We will be learning all about different animals, where they live and what they look like. We will share lots of animal stories, look at the similarities and differences between animals and learn some animal songs.

Also this half term we will be looking after some eggs and hopefully gain some baby chicks. We will find out and learn how to take care of the eggs and the chicks once they have hatched.  At the end of the term we will be finding out about the Queen's Jubilee and celebrating together. It's going to be a busy half term!

If you have any further queries about the curriculum, please speak to a member of staff.

Parents as Partners

Tapestry:

We love to hear about what the children have been getting up to at home! If you download the Tapestry app you can easily add observations of anything your child achieves when they are not at school. Tapestry is also a great way for us to contact you with reminders about school events or for you to check in with us. Make sure to check that your app notifications are set to 'immediate' so that you don't miss anything!

Home Learning in FS1

Reading Champions:

The children have been sent home with a reading book for them to share with you at home. The books have no words in order for the children to develop the skill of story telling and noticing details in illustrations. You can talk about the title, front cover, back cover, the blurb on the back. Look at the characters, setting and make observations about what the story could be about. You could also talk about what might happen next etc.  Reading at home is an important part of ensuring your child becomes a confident reader. As such we want all the Caterpillars to become Reading Champions by reading at home every day!

Read your child's reading book with them each day and record this in their reading record book. For every 15 home reads your child completes they will be awarded with a Reading Badge in the their book. Can you collect them all?

Maths Rockstars Targets:

We have sent home a Maths Rockstars booklet to support your child with their learning in Mathematics. The targets in the booklet are designed to develop the children’s mental maths skills which you can help them with at home. Your child will need to bring their Maths Rockstars booklet to school every day as we will be working with the children on their targets in the classroom. Please do not complete the ‘Date Achieved’ boxes on the children’s booklets as this will be filled in by school staff.

If you have any questions about the Maths Rockstars booklets, or the curriculum in general, please speak to a member of the FS Team.
