Children are encouraged to read as often and as widely as possible. Each child is given a reading book and school Reading Record to take home each night. The reading book is given based on the children's instructional level of reading. This ensures that children can read comfortably, with accuracy and understanding. In Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, and for children in KS2 who have not yet passed the Phonic Screening test, they will take home a Phonic Book from the Phonic Bug Scheme. They can also take a 'real' banded book at the appropriate level. Teachers will use daily assessments and summative assessments to make decisions about which book band is appropriate. If you have any questions about your child's reading book or reading record, please see the class teacher.
