Our Goals
At Anston Hillcrest, through our Learning Means the World Curriculum 3D PSHE and Jigsaw, we aim to nurture each child's personal, social, and emotional growth. Our PSHE and RSE curriculum equips children with the skills to navigate relationships, make informed decisions, and develop a strong sense of self-worth. We promote resilience, well-being, and respect for others, fostering a deep understanding of health, safety, and responsible citizenship. By encouraging self-reflection and empathy, we prepare children to face real-world challenges with confidence and to contribute positively to their communities.

Why?

Enhancing children's personal, social, and emotional development through our PSHE and RSE curriculum not only enriches their educational experience but also equips them with essential life skills for success both in school and beyond. Developing self-awareness, resilience, and a sense of responsibility is vital to children's holistic development, and our PSHE and RSE curriculum provides the foundation for this growth. Through engaging lessons on health, relationships, and decision-making, children learn to navigate challenges, build positive relationships, and contribute meaningfully to their communities, preparing them for a healthy, happy future.

Our PSHE and RSE Curriculum
At Anston Hillcrest we follow the 3D PSHE Programme and Jigsaw. This provides children with the means to handle many of the social, cultural, spiritual, physical and moral issues that occur throughout life.
3D PSHE, along with Jigsaw helps our children to develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully, and contribute positively, to life in modern Britain. Children learn to respect similarities and differences between our diverse cultures in order to build successful and meaningful friendships and relationships that are vital to the world we live in.

How is PSHE and RSE taught?
PSHE and RSE is taught through a combination of subject knowledge and skill building. Learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom through assemblies as well as within the thematic units or stand alone lessons.

Adaptations

At Anston Hillcrest, our PSHE and RSE curriculum for disadvantaged children, including those with SEND is adapted through the use of visual prompts, social stories, and interactive activities. Role-play scenarios and hands-on activities, like creating emotion cards and using sensory resources, help children explore feelings and relationships. Clear routines, visual timetables, and group discussions create an inclusive environment, ensuring all children can engage in important life skills and personal development.
Adaptations are very bespoke to some of our children and may involve external agencies, where this is needed.
PSHE is also further adapted for children via small group inputs and recaps on prior learning to give these children additional time to process what has been covered. Adaptations to outcomes can be seen too with some children producing more visual outcomes rather than written.
